Hello class! Welcome to Asian History!History Cartoon 1.gif

Asian History will be the introduction class for in-coming freshman to develop the critical thinking skills needed to succeed during high school. It is vital for you to understand how civilizations such as India, China, Japan, Korea and Mongolia are intrinsically linked in addition to memorizing names, dates and places. Once you understand the foundations of note taking, reading for comprehension and analytical skills you will have the tools to be successful in a variety of classes.

During Asian History I will push you to understand how early civilizations established themselves through Social, Political, Interactions with others, Cultural and Political means (or S.P.I.C.E.) By doing so youcan begin to recognize the formation of S.P.I.C.E. patterns which can be seen in any Social Studies class.

I will also introduce two skills, which can be applied to any Social Studies class. Cornell Notes and Marzano vocabulary will allow you to take proper notes based on large amounts of text and apply information learned instead of just memorizing facts, names and events.

During the school year some of the skills that students must master are:
- Cornell Notes and Marzano vocabulary
- Periodization skills to establish patterns in different cultures
- Cause and effect to understand why change takes place for
the same culture
- Pre-AP structural writing techniques
- Project-based and Inquiry-based

How past students have succeeded in my Asian History class is by mastering the S.P.I.C.E. analysis of change and continuities between various Asian civilizations. By using Cornell Notes and Marzano vocabulary as an introduction to structure and organization, students can take information over thousands of years of history and easily make clear connections between different civilization which will prepare them for future Social Studies classes.
